Exercise ~ Who Needs
It? You Do!
NOT exercising
is actually a major risk factor for developing coronary
artery disease. It also increases your risk of stroke
and other major cardiovascular risk factors such as
obesity, high blood pressure, low HDL ("good")
cholesterol and diabetes.
The American
Heart Association recommends that children and adolescents
participate in at least 60 minutes of moderate to
vigorous physical activity every day. Try some of
these activities if possible:
Walk to and
from school instead of getting a ride
-
Limit activities
such as watching TV, playing video games, etc.
-
Get outside
more and play with your friends.
-
Take your
dog for a walk. Don't have a dog? Offer to walk
a friend's dog!
-
Set some fitness
and nutrition goals and take small steps to accomplish
them. It doesn't have to be done overnight. Think
of this as a journey to wellness!
You Can
Do It!

disease may begin with habits

Did
you know that fatty deposits can begin to settle
in the arteries of your heart when you are young?
There
is compelling evidence that the fatty deposits of
plaque in artery walls begins in childhood and progresses
slowly into adulthood. Then it often leads to coronary
heart disease, the single largest cause of death
in the United States.
