Disease Prevention and Investigation

Karen Crimmings, RN

Protection for good health begins at birth and continues through your senior years. By getting immunizations and taking other steps to protect yourself from communicable diseases, you are protecting your body from these harmful diseases that could affect your health- for life.

My name is Karen Crimmings and I am the Disease Prevention and Investigation Service Manager at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health. My education includes an associate degree in Nursing from North Iowa Area Community College. I have been a registered nurse since 1993. I have been employed in the Disease Prevention service section here at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health since 2002.

My duties as the Disease Prevention Service Manager include outbreak investigations, disease surveillance, and the development of policies and procedures for disease prevention and control. In addition, I provide oversight for all departmental service programs.

Our Disease Prevention staff includes a Registered Nurse/Disease Prevention Specialist and two LPNs. Our Disease Prevention team works in our Immunization Clinic to provide immunizations for residents of all ages. We also provide services like HIV/STD testing, hepatitis testing, tuberculosis screening and preventative treatment, and public education.

Please review the pages in the Disease Prevention section of our web site to learn more about disease prevention and control, and how we can help your family remain healthy.

If we can assist you in any way, please contact our Disease Prevention staff.
