What's in a Cigarette?

Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 toxic substances, many of which are known to cause cancer in humans, including:

  • Arsenic (rat poison)
  • Carbon monoxide (car exhaust fumes)
  • Methanol (rocket fuel)
  • Hydrogen cyanide (gas chamber poison)
  • Formaldehyde (used to embalm bodies)
  • Napthalene (mothballs)
  • Ammonia (floor & toilet cleaner)
  • Butane (cigarette lighter fluid)
  • Cadmium (rechargeable batteries)
