Position Description: |
Full-time Public Information Officer responsible for developing, coordinating and evaluating county-wide public information and marketing activities.
|
Typical Duties: |
- Responsible for working with health department staff, county agencies, professional organizations, schools, and the general public to develop communication strategies for the purpose of improving public access to health information.
- Develop marketing tools to promote healthy behaviors.
- Organizing and facilitating news conferences.
- Serve as the department’s contact and spokesperson with the media.
- Develop and manage annual marketing plan and budget.
- Create promotional campaigns for public health services, grants and important health issues as they arise.
- Manage the health department web site to include: posting Board of Health agendas and minutes, news releases, program changes and upcoming events.
- Perform public speaking engagements to community groups.
- Sustain an effective knowledge base of health department preparedness and response protocols.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: |
Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism or Public Relations with three years experience in Health or Human Services. |
Compensation: |
Salary range is $32,000 to $38,000 depending on education and experience.

Environmental Health Specialist I
The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health has been awarded funding by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and the National Center for Environmental Health to study arsenic in residential groundwater wells. As part of this funding, the Department is taking applications for the position of environmental health specialist I. This non-exempt, temporary (up to 5 years) full-time position shall be responsible for the following:

Conducting site assessments to determine well suitability for the project

Collect water and other environmental samples using approved sampling techniques

Working with the Public Information Officer to provide a targeted marketing plan
-
Maintain project data by utilizing defined data systems
-
Coordinate partner updates, communication, and data sharing
-
Educate the public and project participants about groundwater
-
Present project updates to state and national partners
-
Review data interpretation provided by project partners
-
Write all reports necessary for project
The successful candidate must be a motivated, team-oriented, self-starter who has strong customer service abilities. Basic comprehension of Microsoft applications a must – GIS/GPS experience a plus; excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to obtain a valid Class C Iowa driver’s license is required.
Candidate shall possess a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university - prefer at least one year of environmental public health experience.
Starting hourly rate shall be $17.74 per hour. Review the complete job description.
