Chickenpox - Varicella

Varicella is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus. Symptoms may include a blister-like rash, itching, tiredness and fever. The rash usually begins on the face or trunk, but may spread to the rest of the body. Bacterial infections may result as a complication of varicella. The disease can be prevented by a vaccine.

Your child may be eligible for free vaccine. If you are not sure if your child is covered under the Vaccine for Children program, or you would like to make an appointment, call the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health at (641) 421-9321.
