Hib - Haemophilus Influenza Type B

Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) is a serious disease caused by bacteria. It usually affects children under 5 years of age. Before Hib vaccine, Hib disease was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis among children. Hib can also infect the lungs, blood, joints, bones, and the thin membrane that covers the heart.

Your child may be eligible for free vaccine. If you are not sure if your child is covered under the Vaccine for Children program, or you would like to make an appointment, call the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health at (641) 421-9321.
