Public Health Preparedness: Planning for Emergencies

Emergency preparedness is something we should all be concerned about.

It may not seem like a big deal if your power goes out for an hour or two. But what if your power goes out for a day ot two? What if the temperature outside is below zero and your power is off for several days or a week? Are you prepared for that?

Start Your Emergency Plan Today

No matter what the season, whether the temperature outside is extremely hot or cold, and no matter what the emergency, weather-related emergency or a made-made emergency, Public Health encourages you to take a few simple steps now so you can prepare yourself and your family if disaster strikes.

The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health has made great strides in developing and implementing an emergency response plan that is applicable to a variety of events ranging from biological attacks to severe storms that might pass through the county.

Since September 2006, we have been creating educational materials and awareness campaigns to teach people about the possible dangers of a pandemic flu outbreak.

All materials on this web site that help you plan for a pandemic flu outbreak also help you plan for other emergencies. These are basic emergency planning measures. Please read the materials below and start your home emergency planning today.

Start creating your own home emergency kit today. We have compiled the best resources we could find and put them all into one place for you. Our Emergency Preparedness Tool Kit is for your use. Please print and save any documents you find useful.

Learn how to put "ICE" in your cell phone. It could help emergency responders located your loved ones if you cannot speak for yourself after and accident or emergency.
