"Communities in Action"
all over
Cerro Gordo County!

Join the C.I.A.

the
JEL C.I.A.

that is!

JEL is "Just Eliminate Lies" from
Big Tobacco

C.I.A. is "Communities in Action" against Big Tobacco

Become a Community in Action!
The Partnership for a Tobacco Free Cerro Gordo County
invites all youth groups in Cerro Gordo County to join the

C.I.A.

and help us create

"Communities in Action!"

The goal is to get youth groups organized and become community advocates for tobacco-free living. We want you to work as a team and come up with
ideas on how to promote tobacco free living in your community!

Not sure how to begin? Check out our Youth Advocate List for ideas.
Use any of these, or feel free to come up with your own idea.

Maybe you will choose to pick up cigarette butts at city parks in your community, then present them to your local city council and ask for
smoke-free parks.

Maybe you will choose to collect signatures in your community of people who support smoke-free restaurants and public buildings.

Organize your group and start brainstorming!

Think action!

Think tobacco-free!

Just Remember...

Chew tobacco is NOT a safe
alternative to smoking!

"Dipping" causes cancers in your lips, throat, cheeks and tongue!

Cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in the United States!

Our 2nd
Annual JEL Youth Rally
was a huge success!

Our celebrity guest was a professional basketball player
~ Shannelle Steirs
~
from the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx

The fun began at 1:00 on April 20, 2002
in Center Court,
Southbridge Mall in Mason City.

Hundreds of young people attended this exciting rally.
It was fantastic!

Our local talent, including the Rockwell/Swaledale Jazz band, kicked off
JEL2 in an award winning performance!

The interactive booths ranged from the YMCA
Teen Leaders doing face painting to Shannelle Steirs from the Minnesota Lynx, who gave a terrific talk about staying tobacco free,
plus letting us all shoot some hoops with her.!

We had the Mason City Youth Task Force in full strength helping out.
They also had their own booth.

Once again the infamous Mr. Gross Mouth, and his yucky chew and disease filled mouth made his presence known as well!

Kirks Custom DJ played some great tunes to get us hoppin' all afternoon!

It was an extremely successful event, thanks to all of you who came!

The first JEL Youth Rally was held May 19, 2001 at North Iowa Area Community College
How can you stand tall against peer pressure? You can start by telling your friends that you refuse to use tobacco products. In support of young people living healthy lifestyles, the first Cerro Gordo JEL Youth Rally was planned and held in May, 2001. It was a huge success! Before we held a community-wide rally, members of Rock In Prevention came to schools in Cerro Gordo County (above).
